On the 22nd of May each year, the world celebrates World Goth Day, and Melbourne was no exception as Bergy Bandroom brought the city’s gothic underground together for a night of dark atmospheres, live performance, and community. Presented by Black Planet, the event featured a diverse lineup spanning goth, darkwave, post-punk, and industrial sounds, with each act bringing its own distinct energy to the stage. From haunting vocals and shimmering synths in black, the night showcased the diversity and passion of Melbourne’s gothic music scene.
Throughout the night, Saša Čuha served as the evening’s poetic guide, opening the event with spoken word performances and introducing each band with original poetry inspired by their sound and atmosphere. His theatrical delivery and dark, immersive storytelling added a unique connective thread to the night, turning each transition between bands into part of the experience itself.
False Animal
False Animal unleashed a wall of post-punk tension, industrial textures, and abrasive noise at World Goth Day, delivering one of the night’s most intense and immersive performances. Blending dark atmospheres with raw sonic chaos, the Melbourne act pushed the crowd deeper into the night’s gothic undercurrent.
Eden
A true cornerstone of Melbourne’s gothic underground, Eden brought decades of darkwave atmosphere and haunting intensity to World Goth Day. Blending ethereal textures, hypnotic rhythms, and emotionally charged performances, the band delivered a set that felt both timeless and immersive, drawing the crowd deeper into the night with every song.
As one of Australia’s longest-running and most respected gothic acts, Eden’s performance was a reminder of the enduring power and evolution of the local dark alternative scene.
